The Board of Public Works and Safety consists of three members. One of the members is the mayor and the remaining members are appointed by the mayor. The city clerk-treasurer is the clerk of the board. The Board of Public Works and Safety have broad statutory grants of power to enable to carry out the functions. Those functions includes control over streets, sanitation, transportation, sewers, and sewage, and water utilities. The Board of Public Works and Safety also approves; contracts, new hire recommendations, and all personnel matters.
