Requirements for these position are:

Must be at least 21 years of age and less than 36 years of age
Must be a United States citizen
Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
Must have a valid driver’s license
Must be able to pass a background check, with no felony or dangerous misdemeanor convictions
Must be able to successfully complete the entrance standards for the I.L.E.A. physical tactics (provided with application)

What this position offers:

 The Portland Police Dept. is currently offering lateral transfers with a $5000.00 sign on bonus

 Requirements for a lateral transfer are:

Officers must have a tier one academy certification.
Officer must be in good standing with the I.L.E.A.
Officers must have their continuing education up to date.
Officers must be able to successfully complete the entrance standards for the I.L.E.A. physical tactics unless you are currently enrolled in the 1977 police and fire pension fund.
Officers must be able to successfully complete the psychological evaluation unless you are currently enrolled in the 1977 police and fire pension fund.

 Years of service acknowledged in the following way:

Their years of service will be acknowledged towards earned vacation time with the city of Portland’s policy
Their years of service will be acknowledged towards the city of Portland’s longevity program
Their years of service would qualify them for eligibility for promotions to Sergeant, Investigator, or Assistant Chief, provided their years of service meet the minimum requirements with Portland P.D. policy.

What their years of service will not qualify them for:

 No sick time would be transferred from a previous department; it must be earned under Portland P. D. policy.
Their seniority would not be recognized for time off requests and shift preference; this would start as a new officer.
No probationary waiver will be granted, they are required to serve the one year probationary officer.

The lateral transfer does qualify for a $5000 sign on bonus. This bonus will be paid at one thousand dollars ($1000.00) upon completion of their first year of employment, fifteen hundred ($1500.00) upon completion of their second year of employment, and twenty five hundred ($2500.00) upon the completion of three years of employment.
